Hints and Tips

Meshing:

Meshing using ladees tights is our preferred method. See the photo sequences to see how its done.
You can mesh up a foam punched bottom bait, paste, dry dip or naturals like dried or frozen bloodworm or gammurus, both gammurus and dried bloodworm make excellent pop ups.
Dean uses mesh for all his angling, he does this so that he knows his bait remains intact when it's left out for 24 hours or more he likes to use softish baits that break down, quickly dispersing natural attractors into the swim. The foam punched bottom bait being deans favorite
Don't forget when you have meshed up that bait is going to remain intact for at least 72 hours, very handy when wary carp are about and you don't wont to recast for fear of spooking them.

You can mesh pretty much any bait you can think of, floating Pellets make great pop ups and meshed Sweetcorn can be cast as far as you want and you know it's still going to be on the hair.

We strongly recommend meshing in July and August when the roach can be total pests!

Spring Attraction:

This time of year when the carp are becoming more naturals04.jpg (275076 bytes) active they can be drawn to bright baits and the more blatant baiting approach. The carp's senses aren't fully switched on yet as they are cold blooded the warmer the carp gets the faster its brain works and you could be fishing a method that is excellent in high summer and autumn but just doesn't do it in the spring. If you have been trickling the bait in over the winter you should be OK but if you haven't the old carp have probably forgotten about you and are out on the munch feeding by site, this is when a bright pop up seems to work well over a big bed of bait. As we don't sell chemical pop ups this is the method we use to get round this problem. Mesh a standard bottom bait and place on the hair, top this off with a piece of brightly coloured rig foam, yellow being our preferred colour in the spring. See photos.

This also works well on easier lakes most times of the year. A fake white maggot is a go'er! and has accounted for a good few fish. Zig rigs using bright foam only have worked well on Kingsmead 1 so our field testers told us.
