This up and coming venue is sure to be something special in a few seasons time. With twenty different carp hitting 30lb plus, numerous twenty plusses and lots of up and comers K1 is a great place to catch your first twenty or thirty.
The lake itself is thirty acres in size and irregularly shaped with an average depth of around twelve feet, the lake is shallower at the bridge end were 7 or 8 feet can be found. In high summer this is the end to fish for consistent results. The point area can be good all year round due to fish moving in and out of Dog Bay and down the Party Bank. Dog Bay is an excellent area in the spring as the carp come into the bay to spawn along the Horton bank snags. The Party Bank comes into its own in the autumn, they seem to shoal up in this area before the winter and some big hits are had from this area at this time of year. Winter time on K1 can be tough if you are not on the fish, location is very important. A good starting point is in the open water at range from Dog 3, The Point or Trudys. And it is also this area which seems to produce fish in March and April time when they are waking up after the winter.
There are two car parks at Kingsmead 1, one in the Dog Kennel Bay and the other at the opposite end at the bottom of the Party Bank. A Porta Loo is in place at both of these car parks, please treat them with respect and follow the Porta Loo code of etiquette, ie. flush before use, place a sheet of paper in the pan, do the business, flush again and clean the seat for the next customer. Nice one. Oh yes, when you leave the venue take ALL your rubbish with you as the swims are now numbered and records are kept, and litter louts WILL LOOSE THERE TICKETS!
